Trombonist George Lewis was just 24 years old when he recorded this solo session in 1976. Already a member of Chicago's AACM since 1971 & a veteran contributor to Roscoe Mitchell's quartet, he had toured the U.S., Canada & Japan with the Count Basie Orchestra. Here he finds different ways to emphasize a principle of interactivity in a improvisational solo context. It's clearly there in the layered dialogues of the over-dubbed work on the first track, but it's also present in each of the three shorter pieces, whether it's an approach to the instrument, a fixed star in the repertoire, or the interaction of line & sonority.

Tracks:
1.1 Toneburst (Pieces for Three Trombones Simultaneously)
1.2 Phenomenology
1.3 Lush Life
1.4 Lush Life
