Music's Quill was formed in 2000, when Timothy Johnson and Timothy Burris met, and discovered their shared love of the English lute song, the French air de cour, and Italian monody-all rich repertoires combining the subtlety of lute accompaniment with each nation's characteristic vocal and poetic traditions. From it's inception, the duo has devoted itself to bringing this music to a wider audience in New England. TIMOTHY NEILL JOHNSON, Tenor Timothy Neill Johnson received his Bachelor of Music Degree from Cal State Los Angeles and continued his studies at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp, Belgium. As a singer with a fondness for chamber and concert music, Mr Johnson has performed and recorded with many ensembles here and abroad, including: Los Angeles Baroque Ensemble; La Petite Bande; Collegium Vocale; Le Concert Spirituel de Paris; and Apollo's Fire. He is currently on the faculty of both Bowdoin College and the University of Maine in Augusta. TIMOTHY BURRIS, Lute Timothy Burris is a graduate of both the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague (soloist's diploma, 1988) and Duke University (Ph.D., 1997). In addition to his appearances with Music's Quill, Mr Burris has performed in concert with Derek Lee Ragin, Julianne Baird, and Jennifer Lane, among others, and under the baton of René Clemencic and Peter Schreier. Among his six previous recordings is Divoti Affetti (PGM 106), featuring modern premieres of music written for the 18th-century Dresden court. Lute instructor at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music in Antwerp from 1990-96, he is currently on the faculty of the Portland, Maine Conservatory of Music.
