Digitally remastered edition. Jerry Williams Jr or Swamp Dogg, as he has been known for most of his career, is one of soul music's great cult heroes. As well as producing southern soul masterpieces by Doris Duke, Irma Thomas, Charlie Raw Spitt Whitehead and Sandra Phillips, Swamp Dogg has released around 20 solo albums since 1970, almost all of them on different labels. Many have been reissued on CD over the years, but this month Ace brings to CD for the first time Swamp's tenth album. I'm Not Selling Out/I'm Buying In! was recorded in 1980 in California and issued on Takoma Records a label not generally known for releasing soul music the following year. It's one of his least-known albums, and one of his best. Swamp Dogg is adept at mixing soul and social commentary in equal measure, throwing in a hearty helping of humor to create a special strand of black American music. Although there were no singles issued from the album many of the songs including Swamp's anti-love duet with Esther Phillips, 'The Love We Had Ain't Worth Two Dead Flies' are massive fan favorites. Their long overdue appearance on CD remastered from the original Takoma tapes will be greatly appreciated.
