With a musical career spanning over five decades, the great Jimmy Witherspoon dipped his toe in many pools. Though crossing over into R&B, swing, gospel and jazz his roots however, were always in the blues. Putting that on display here for all to see, this extraordinary live recording captures the essence of Witherspoon's dynamic stage presence and his total mastery of the blues. Featuring performances from the legendary tenor saxophonist Ben Webster, baritonist Gerry Mulligan, and a rhythm section consisting of pianist Jimmy Rowles, bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Mel Lewis - the band were truly at the top of their game on this fateful night in 1960. The warmth of Spoon's voice croons effortlessly over the wonderful instrumental performances of his band to give unforgettable performances of classics including "Times Gettin´ Tougher Than Tough", "How Long Blues" and the traditional "CC Rider".
