Draag Have Got It Covered With Their Take On Vinyl Williams, Deerhunter, Pinback & More On Tower's Live Show
Adrian Acosta and Shane Graham of the band Draag joined our Tower Instagram Live show to talk with host Whitney Moore about their new EP featuring carefully crafted cover songs which arrives this week on October 9th!. They did make what was definitely an aesthetic choice and not a technology-driven choice to appear on the show "sideways" so don't adjust your devices!
Draag are an LA-based band and have been experiencing the lockdown like everyone else, but they've been busy during this time working on songs for a new album but also putting together their Covers EP. What goes into making a cover a Draag song is a little mysterious, but it involves rounds of tweaking until it's recognizably a different piece with their own stamp on it. Some of the bands covered on the album include works by Vinyl Williams, Deerhunter, Pinback, Throbbing Gristle, and more. All songs were chosen because Draag just loved them. In most cases they did not know the band personally before deciding on the song.
What about that hotly contested genre term "Shoegaze" that's been applied to Draag and so many others? They don't know for sure that they really are a Shoegaze band, but they admit that they are "Shoegaze adjacent".
