Jealous of the Birds Introduces 'Young Neanderthal' From Naomi Hamilton's Belfast Apartment
Northern Ireland-based singer-songwriter Naomi Hamilton releases music as Jealous of the Birds, and has dropped a new single titles "Young Neanderthal" as well as an official video for the song directed, filmed, and edited by Hamilton in her Belfast apartment.
Hamilton says:
“For me ‘Young Neanderthal’ is about subverting the expectations others have of you and shedding any kind of implicit self-posturing you may have fallen into. The young Neanderthal character became a metaphor for any naive ways of thinking and passively reacting to circumstance, and so I wanted the song to act as a defiant resignation letter to playing that role.”
“Young Neanderthal” is a forerunner of Jealous of the Birds’ next album, Peninsula, due out Friday, September 18.
Another single from the album that has already been released is “Ode of Fire”.
Along with her musical output, Hamilton also hosts the JEALOUS OF THE BOPS podcast, featuring in-depth discussions of classic LPs by artists from Fleet Foxes and Marvin Gaye to Miriam Makeba and Adam and the Ants.
