Johnny Cash's 1973 Performance Gets 'A Night to Remember' Vault Package From Third Man
Third Man Records has announced the 45th installment to their Vault Package series, and it will be Johnny Cash's A Night To Remember 2xLP.
The package will feature an unreleased 1973 concert at The Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, and includes a gold foil LP jacket, a double vintage white LP, a gold 7" featuring two unreleased Forever Words pieces by Ruston Kelly and a mystery artist, and a DVD of the performance. Sign up is now open through July 31 at midnight CST.
"A Week To Remember" concerts were a series that ran in April of 1973, spearheaded by Clive Davis and highlighted the artists that were then signed to Columbia Records at the time. They included Miles Davis, the Staple Singers, Bruce Springsteen, Earth, Wind and Fire and many others, all of whom performed in the seven nights of shows at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.
Johnny Cash's performance included guest appearances from both his wife June Carter Cash and fellow Sun Records alumnus, Carl Perkins. The performance opened with the iconic "Big River", followed by Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down", then "A Boy Named Sue", "Hey Porter", "I Walk The Line", "Jackson" and "Folsom Prison Blues".
This collection will be the first time the full show multi-track recording has been released. But because Davis had the foresight to professionally film these concerts, there will be a released DVD. The filming does not contain the entire set, but does include "revelatory" backstage footage and it's a "high-quality, multi-camera shoot".
On the Forever Words project, John Carter Cash paired Cash's music with new performers, and a 7-inch record, including two previously unreleased Forever Words pieces, accompany this package. Here Ruston Kelly shares “Dark and Bloody Ground", and the second artist is yet to be revealed.
