Metric Revisits 'Live It Out' 15 Years Later With 'Dirt Road' Version Of Songs & New Merch

Canadian band Metric's 2005 album Live it Out is hitting its 15th anniversary, and the band have been releasing "Dirt Road" reconsidered and acoustic versions of some of their classic songs to keep them busy with touring halted. This time they've picked “Live It Out” and "The Police and the Private". 

Frontwoman Emily Haines describes the times we're in right now as "a very long sci-fi movie with either an astronomical or a shoestring budget, depending on who you are and where you live" that prompt her to feel like some of the lines from the band's songs are suddenly more relevant than they've ever been before.

She says, regarding the 15th anniversary of Live It Out:

"I love the idea that this album could circle around from the past and prove itself useful to anyone who might be, like me, feeling serious adverse effects of losing access to live music and the particular thrill that unique connection between us brings.

Revisiting Live it Out fifteen years later has reminded me what it’s like to live simply, out of necessity, guided by one clear principle: Take your worst feelings— anger, fear, envy, anxiety, guilt, confusion, grief— and be honest about them, express them, expel them from your psyche and forget about keeping up appearances. Be true. And in so doing, be free."

For these celebratory reasons, Haines has designed new Live it Out limited-edition pieces for the store, and the band has also recorded and released the Dirt Road versions of “Live it Out” and “The Police and The Private”. Each vinyl single is limited to 300 copies and you can pre-order them now.

Haines also warns: "If you listen closely, you may well hear the cricket that invaded our studio in the woods coming through loud and clear on my vocal track."
