Art Pop group The Mommyheads have released a new single, "Out From Under The Glass." The video features RotoScope animation. "Out From Under The Glass” heralds The Mommyheads’ next album New Kings of Pop, due out on August 28, 2020 via Fan Records and Mommyhead Music.
The Mommyheads’ Adam Elk comments:
“The song speaks to my own struggles as a parent as I witness my children slip into the highly addictive virtual-world. Collaborating with my family on this project, as well as the 5,000 hand-drawn RotoScoping frames, proved therapeutic. I hope this video inspires families to be creative and make art together during these trying times.”
New Kings of Pop will mark The Mommyheads’ third release in two years, following 2019’s Future You and the new album is described as having "a decidedly acoustic heart", in contrast to their more electronic and synth-driven previous releases.
Themes on the new album include, "connection in a climate where standard forms of communication have begun to alienate", and "societal preconceptions about who and what has the power and wisdom to guide us in times of peril".
The goals of the album are not so much "a call-to-action in troubled times and more as a compassionate acknowledgment of our collective cry for stability, clarity, and new beacons of reason to look up to".
