Teague Alexy's The Love and The Struggle was a highly anticipated release on the Minnesota independent music scene in 2003. Teague's first album Sun Moon and Heaven was an impressive debut and left little question about Teague as a highly talented singer/songwriter. Love and Struggle also shows Teague to be a talented thinker. Under rich sonic landscapes the rhythm section of bassist Chad Bloodson and drummer Dustin Tessier bring the same charge that had been packing dance floors at live shows. Teague however goes right for the conscious and spirit on definitive Love and Struggle tracks like 'The Times We've Known' and 'Better View'. 'My Bottle in the Water' remains one of Teague's most important songs and 'The Story of King Francis The Fool' is a hint at the depths his songwriting would explore on his 2006 album The New Folklore. An album full of love songs with no mention of women, The Love and The Struggle was Teague's bold first step away from merely being a good songwriter and towards being an important artist. Consider it his Paul's Boutique.
