Before we were The Jelly Bean Bandits, we were The Mirror, a stage-eating sweaty five-folk powerhouse that continuously added to our audience. We played at a nightclub called the Buccaneer outside of Poughkeepsie, New York, six nights a week, twenty-six weeks straight. It was a converted roller rink holding several hundred and to do 156 nights there successfully tells you about our draw. When we released our first new recording in over three decades last year, 'Time and Again,' it was 34 years after the Buccaneer days. We were reasonably nervous about reviews. Here are a few: 'Best known for their 1967 album on the Mainstream label, the band acquired a cult following in recent years due to the astounding range of music present on their LP. We're happy to report that their new release, 'Time and Again,' is just as eclectic and amazing as their original album.' - The Lance Monthly 'After thirty-something years they released a second album, 'Time and Again,' to an audience that sneaked in through an internet portal and exalted the Bandits to a semi-cult status...it is testimony that there exists an appetite for something more substantial than test-tube tunes.' - Gypsies of Different Times 'The new recordings find them as a modern day, roots-conscious band...' - Ugly Things Magazine 'Ahhh...just beautiful! Hopefully these guys will bring us a third album long before A.D. 2035 rolls around...' - Dead Flowers Monthly Music Picks However, there were still many fans around who had caught us live at the Buccaneer, the Trade Winds nightclub in Newburgh, New York, the Red Dog nightclub in Burlington, Vermont and many other New England venues. Many of them asked if we had any live recordings of the band from back then. Turns out we did and even thought the reel-to-reel tapes were never meant to be released three decades after they were recorded, they were still salvageable and improved by modern technology. That's why we released Mirror Music. A live, in-your-face musical time capsule that still holds up today.
