Nashville documentarian and music writer Craig Havighurst says that Annie Crane is carrying on the tradition of "refashioning folk music in a modernist and urbane guise". Compared to the likes of Sandy Denny, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, Crane writes of immigrant grandparents, heartache in snowy Toronto and of an industrially strong Brooklyn love. She has played the Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Musichall and countless other famed NYC venues, has been featured at the New Jersey Folk Festival two years in a row, closed out the 2009 Rochester Indie Festival, toured internationally, performed on numerous radio programs (Americana Crossroads in KY, the Blue Plate Special in TN, Over Yonder in MA) and shared the stage with The Bowmans, Phoebe Krutz, Au Revoir Simone and most recently, with Emmylou Harris at the inaugural "Music City Roots: Live from the Loveless Cafe" in Nashville TN. "Through the Farmlands & the Cities", Crane's debut full-length, full band endeavor, was recorded within the urban cabin of GaluminumFoil Studios in Brooklyn, NY from November 2008-February 2009. Co-produced with Chris Cubeta, the CD holds true to Crane's folk/Americana roots while incorporating a band that lends profundity without pulling the listener away from the lyrics. "This album is folk rock in it's purest form... I am looking forward to what is to come in the future from Annie Crane. If you get the chance to listen, do not pass it up!" Rickard Holmgren, Melodic.net, Sweden.
