Saxophonist/clarinetist Harvey Wainapel has performed with Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Guinga, Jovino Santos Neto, Paulo Bellinati, Marco Pereira, Filó Machado, Proveta, Nelson Ayres, Itiberê Zwarg, and Spok, as well as jazz masters such as Ray Charles, Joe Lovano, and McCoy Tyner. "Amigos Brasileiros vol. 2" is the result of years of "on-site" research and encounters with established and emerging Brazilian artists. The CD brings Harvey together with nine different groups of amazing Brazilian musicians, with each track showcasing a different composer; the result is a comprehensive look at what's happening in today's instrumental music of Brazil. (90% of the music was recorded in Brazil.) While the music is full of folkloric roots, it does not look backwards, but rather is a joyous view of how tradition, treated with respect, is evolving in Brazil. No nostalgia, electronica, lounge, or trendy gimmicks here; just honest, hard-blowing (and lyrical) Brazilian music with a naturally integrated element of jazz improvisation. Brazilian icon Ivan Lins says "Harvey is amazing; he understands Brazilian music in a way that's very unusual, maybe because he loves it so much. He's got the spirit; he's a great musician!" "Wainapel displayed incredible intimacy with the language of Brazilian music and great stage presence." -O Globo (Rio de Janeiro's daily newspaper)
