Austrian-born Lolita was a hugely successful singer, actress, and TV & radio presenter in Germany, between the mid 1950s and the late 1980s. This collection presents the Very Best of her singles between 1957 and 1962, which includes more than a dozen major hit records in Europe. She famously registered her biggest international success in 1960 with 'Seemann... (deine Heimat ist das Meer)', which sold more than a million copies in Germany alone. It also reached #1 in Norway as well as making the Top 10s in Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, and Japan, although she missed out in the UK and France to Petula Clark's cover versions. In the United States, where it sold a further million copies, it was overdubbed with a spoken passage in heavily accented English and retitled 'Sailor (Your Home Is The Sea)'.
