Funny enough, this is actually the SECOND release from a Buenos Aires-based artist on Jigsaw (the first being Sol Marianela, of course!). But unlike Sol's "Hasta Nunca" album, "Mew" finds Tani singing in English, which was the primary reason she wanted to have this also available outside of Argentina, where it originally came out on Discobabydiscos. Tani emailed me out of the blue earlier this year, and after one listen to this shiny gem, my decision was pretty clear! Her songs are simple and enchanting - almost innocent, in a way - pop songs played on a keyboard without any sign of pretense or vanity, and then filled out with other instruments, courtesy of her friends. Stylistically, they fit somewhere between the earlier recordings of Mirah & the Blow (but with keyboards) and Au Revoir Simone & Feist, but with a little more playfulness. She's slowly working on new songs for a third album at the moment, but for now, please enjoy this tiny treasure!
