Abigail's Ghost is a band driven by ambitions that can't be deterred by hurricanes, floods, or the fact that two of it's members live halfway across the country. Drummer John Rodrigue and Rhythm Guitarist Randy LeBoeuf both attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA while the rest of the band lives and plays in extreme southern Louisiana. All 5 members hail from the Houma/New Orleans region and have musical tastes as diverse as the Louisiana landscape. While they're not stuck in a hotel playing Pedro (Southern Louisiana's favorite card game) waiting for a hurricane to pass so they can return home, they're studying, writing, and recording they're own special blend of progressive rock, metal, trip-hop and dixieland (New Orleans jazz). As if trying to record an album isn't difficult enough with members scattered across the United States, it's a veritable nightmare when mother nature decides to cripple your entire city. Lead singer/Lead guitarist Joshua Theriot, himself a graduate of Berklee College of Music, recalls what it was like trying to get Selling Insincerity (2007) released, 'We recorded SI months after Katrina and I can remember going to New Orleans everyday passing piles of debris and 'Looters will be shot ' signs. It was definitely a dark time for everybody down here.' Despite hurdle after hurdle stemming from Katrina, AG was able to release Selling Insincerity on their own label Aesperus Music a year and a half after the storm. Fast forward a year: As Abigail's Ghost makes arrangements to begin recording their second album and play the ProgDay festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, what would become Hurricane Gustav forms in the Atlantic. 'It seems like every time we want to do a record, mother nature starts breathing down our necks again,' quips keyboardist Brett Guillory. The storm forced the band to stay an extra week in Chapel Hill. Staying up all night drinking coffee and playing cards would serve as the creative forum for what would eventually become the band's followup record, d_letion. Upon returning to downed trees and power lines, no electricity and miserable heat, the band wasted no time in getting to work booking sessions, buying plane tickets and writing out beat structures in the back of Theriot's French notebook. D_letion was recorded over the course of several weekends in the fall of 2008 at Axistudio in New Orleans, then mixed and mastered in the winter. Says bassist/producer Kenneth Wilson of the recording process 'This new album I found was much easier and much more natural to put together in the studio as we had gotten much more familiar with what was going on sonically. I had time to plan out certain sounds beforehand, whereas on Selling Insincerity, we basically were parachuting without a ripcord.' The rest of the band is just as pleased with the outcome this time around despite all the mayhem surrounding the recording. 'I love it. I listen to this album as bandmember and a fan at the same time, and I'm never let down,' remarks rhythm guitarist Randy LeBoeuf. Drummer John Rodrigue also weighs in saying, 'It's way more guitar-driven than the first record and there's and indisputable New Orleans vibe happening throughout that I think is going to pleasantly surprise a lot of people.' Trading the lush synth arrangements of their debut Selling Insincerity (2007) for thick, guitar-laden choruses and blistering solos, Abigail's Ghost has been touched by the naughty side (and seem to be enjoying it). With borderline-seedy lyrics, walls of distorted guitars, and a dab of New Orleans flavor, 2009's d_letion promises absolute pleasure.
