Friedrich Gulda recorded Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier in the years of 1972-1973. This was the high-and endpoint of the collaboration between Gulda and the German sound-sorcerer Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer. A Steinway Grand Imperial was brought into the MPS studio specifically for Gulda's use and were placed to his exact specifications so the piano's sonority could be optimally captured. Bach composed this cycle of works that play through all twenty-four major and minor keys in 1722. The set is also produced from the original master tapes with no correction of sound dynamics. It includes a high quality hot foil stamped booklet of thirty-five pages of original accompanying material (labels, booklets, and Gulda's comments) plus reissue texts. This new release appears on the anniversary of the pianist's 85th birthday.
