Gabe Morales is a young composer, performer, and blues-guitar giant whose talent matches that of professionals twice his age. Born in Roanoke, VA in 1998 Morales started to appreciate a wide range of music genres at a very young age. At the age of ten he started to play the guitar and showed a special affinity for Rock and Blues guitar playing- which he did with great maturity and expression -"like a grown man" (Michael League of Snarky Puppy). Morales' performances are a display of his guitar skills, maturity and soul's expression. His sound is continually evolving; he is constantly studying the work of great musicians of all genres. Gabe's songwriting skills produce music with rich textures and real stories that reach the soul. Gabriel's interest in the guitar began before he even played an instrument. "For a long time, before I went to sleep my Dad would get his acoustic guitar out and play at my bedside until I fell asleep. The sound of his playing was soothing and later made me want to play as well." Gabriel's first instrument was actually the violin. He played violin for a few years; progressing steadily with his father as his coach, but one day, his father noticed he began screeching while playing. "I told my dad that I wanted to play guitar like him. He told me that was fine, but I had to become a better guitar player than him. He was and still is my coach; always pushing me to do better and to keep my feet on the ground." From then on Gabe's favorite Saturday outing was to visit Kelly's Music to try the guitars (Gabe and his family will always be grateful to Kelly's Music for their patience and support). His first experiences on stage was at the yearly talent shows at the elementary school he attended where he also he performed his first original song. Right at the turn of twelve years old Gabe met the now grammy-winning band Snarky Puppy, while in residency inside Jefferson Center's Music Lab, who heard him performing Led Zeppelin's Over The Hills and Far Away on the acoustic guitar; Michael League invited Gabe to sit in with Snarky Puppy that same night at Martin's Downtown. For the first time, he played the lead guitar on Jimi Hendrix's Red House. Thanks to his involvement with Jefferson Center's Music Lab, he has had the opportunity to meet, perform and record with numerous local, national, and international musicians and bands, among them: Dr. Lonnie Smith, Rodney Jones (2011 Jazz Institute), Little John Roberts, Snarky Puppy, Michael League, Robert Searight, Lucy Woodward, The Jamie McLean Band, Banda Magda, Darrel Scott, Matt Schofield Band, James Pace, Chad Eby (Jazz Institute 2011, 2012), Ocie Davis, Calvin Edwards, Bobby Thompson, the late Michael Burks (1957-2012)- who referred to Gabe as "Guitar Gabe", Wayne Sharpe, The Fat Daddy Band, Hoppie Vaughan, Carlos Aranguren, Cameron McLaughlin, The Floorboards, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, The Jordan Harman Band, Jeff Hoffman, Greg Ayers, Chris Blankenship.
