I was born in Alicante city, on the 31st May 1971. Music has been in me since childhood, at age 11 much of my time was spent listening to radio stations from that era. It was while listening to Mike Oldfield and his album Tubular Bells, that my love affair with the guitar began, Tubular Bells consisted of endless melodies which captivated my senses. It was when I listened to this music with my eyes closed that I realized I was hooked. I quickly learned that Mike Oldfield was not only a great guitarist but also a great composer. Each of his albums was like a journey through time. It was at that point that learning the guitar for me became essential. Luckily for me there was an old Spanish guitar at home, and although it was in bad repair I was able to improvise using a single string, I also vaguely remember having an old book of guitar chords. No one taught me any technique, but after thinking about my music classes from school I started to play from memory the diatonic scale using all six strings to accompany and improvise on my favourite songs from Mike Oldfield, Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd etc. So with a little time I began to master all my favourite songs. On my 15th birthday my father gave me a choice that changed my world, either an end of year trip or a new guitar, for me there would always be plenty more time to travel, it was an easy choice. My black series II Ibanez Roadstar is still one of my most prized possessions. I do not consider myself an exceptional guitarist and realize that I do not have the skills needed to play fast. I am also quite shy when I play to an audience. My desire to learn the guitar led me to practice, play and develope my own style, all the time experimenting with different guitar sounds. Therefore I do not feel the need to be the fastest player in the world. What really thrills me is composing my music and touching the heart strings of all those who listen to it, I hope you all enjoy. Jaime Helios.
