Good things come to those who wait. Those waiting for the debut recording of drummer/composer Johnathan Blake, an important part of the New York jazz community as an adept accompanist and collaborator, should be completely satisfied with his new CD the Eleventh Hour (Sunnyside, Feb. 28, 2012). The program of forward leaning originals and two fantastic covers was performed by an impressive cast, including keyboardist Kevin Hayes, bassist Ben Street, saxophonists Jaleel Shaw, Tim Warfield and Mark Turner, along with special guests trumpeter Tom Harrell, harmonica player Grégoire Maret and pianist Robert Glasper.
