Pacific Electric is modern jazz, but it has strong roots in old school funk, a deep admiration of Aaron Copeland and Afro-Cuban grooves. Sid Jacobs, guitar, Larry Williams, trumpet and Dave Price on sax share the solos with Jon on Keyboards and percussion. All compositions are originals. Jon was born in Los Angeles, and dedicates this record to the Pacific Electric Railway, the world's largest streetcar system, destroyed in 1952. Each of these tunes reflect his impressions of the rhythm of the rails, solid grooves of each track take you on a funk/be-bop sound voyage. There's an attitude to this album...it's 'check this out.' These are fine players playing at their best. This is not avant-garde jazz, but there's a subtle complexity to this that says 'not more of the same.' Jon recorded and mixed Pacific Electric with bassist Lynn Woolever and drummer/percussionist Jack Lees. The record was mastered by Maurice Gainen with Art Munson. Original cover artwork by Joe Dupuis. Photography and graphics were done by Michael Rosen. Pacific Electric, peaceful but powerful.
