Conceived as an exuberant preparation for becoming a first-time dad, Try To Remember is a collection of Broadway musical tunes that Mike describes as "part whimsical, part longing and a whole bunch of hope". Multiple JUNO award winner Steve Bell calls the recording "sonically gorgeous", and George Rondina (Studio Manager / Number Nine Recording) describes the trio's playing on the recording as "simply world class". From the virtuosic performance of 'Chim Chim Che-ree' to the great solo stride version of 'If I Only Had A Brain' to the beautiful touching playing of 'Somewhere' and 'Bring Him Home', Try To Remember slides in through your ears and goes right to your heart. In the words of Josh Grossman (Artist Director / Downtown Toronto Jazz Festival), "this performance clearly comes from somewhere deeper."
