A most capable vocalist with a relaxed style reminiscent of Billie Holiday, Mia Saki is a bit of a mystery. This excellent 1954 single for the New York based Bruce Records label, "I Cover The Waterfront" b/w "'Deed I Do," appears to be her only release. The curious sound of waves lapping the shore are present on the time-honored ballad "I Cover The Waterfront" making this a most unusual reading of the tune, while the flip side, "'Deed I Do" - another well-known standard - is given a lively rendering on the flip backed by a tight organ combo featuring an excellent tenor sax solo. It has been rumored that the organist on this recording is the great Jimmy Smith who appears on other recordings for the Bruce label during this same time period. This ultra rare classic is presented here newly remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
