Washington, D.C.  based pianist Terry Marshall begins the first chapter of what promises to be a fruitful recording career with a heartfelt collection of original music, complemented by some intriguing arrangements of time-honored jazz classics.    The first thing you realize about Terry Marshall's CD 'Arrival' is that it is incredibly memorable and listenable music. The vocal pieces on this CD are discoveries that will be remembered fondly in years to come. Iva Ambush's interpretation of two Djavan pieces ('Flor DeLis'and 'Avion') and Kendra Johnson's  rendition of the classic 'This Bitter Earth' are truly masterpieces. In turn, De Castro Brown approaches 'Moody's Mood'the way it was meant to be sung-with a true swinging soulful style that embodies the best sentiment of the bebop period.     Mr. Marshall draws from a deep talent pool in the Washington DC area. The interplay between two brothers, Leonardo and Alejandro Lucini on bass and drums, is near telepathic. Drummer  Harold  Summey, a Thelonius Monk Competition winner, teams with veteran Dave Marsh on bass to complete the magic.     All in all this is a great recording. Many of the tunes are new, and a lot o of the others you've never heard before. But that's a good thing and you certainly won't regret you decision to embrace this 'Arrival'.
