Title: Guacho
Label: Pantaleon Records

Vayo is a three time Grammy Nominee; 2007 and 2010 Latin Grammy for 'Best Tango Album' and 2011 Grammy for 'Best Contemporary World Music Album' The 'gaucho' is a vital element in the cultures of Uruguay, Argentina, and the South of Brazil. While sharing a similar ethnic origin, the gauchos developed their own distinctive national folklore. The music of this album, inspired by the rural culture, draws from Vayo's formative years in Montevideo. Even in the urban environment of Vayo's childhood, the gaucho was held as a hero of the struggles for national independence, as a symbol of instinctive interaction with Nature, and as a poet and musician. The opening 'Milonga' honors Giuseppe Garibaldi, the international liberator who adopted the manner of the gaucho in Uruguay at the beginning of his heroic campaign, and who remained a gaucho during his triumphant unification of Italy. 'El Ultimo Gaucho' and 'La Ranchera del Chiripa' adopt an outsider's affectionate point of view of the world of the gaucho. In the other themes, Vayo impersonates the mythical figure of another era, thus giving the gaucho a voice that speaks to the World.
