On the jazz standard "A Night in Tunisia" composed by Dizzy Gillespie in 1942, Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, realised this album with a legendary ensemble the lineup includes Lee Morgan on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, Bobby Timmons on piano, and Jymie Merritt on bass. Recorded on August 7 and 14, 1960 this album is one of the most celebrated for the powerful solos and intricate arrangements, epitomizing the hard bop style. Blakey's versions of "A Night in Tunisia" are renowned for their intense energy and complexity, the piece itself features a distinctive Afro-Cuban rhythm in the introduction and the main theme, transitioning into straight-ahead swing for the improvisational sections.
