André Hazes' album Kleine Jongen was oorspronkelijk uitbracht in 1990. de hit single "Kleine Jongen" bereikte de nummer 7 positie in de Nederlandse Single Top 100 en het gelijknamige album behaalde de nummer 7 positie in de Nederlandse Album Top 100. Het nummer "Hoogste Tijd" kwam nooit uit als single, maar is nog altijd te horen in cafés en kroegen als laatste plaat voor sluitingstijd. Hazes groeide uit tot het gezicht van het Nederlandse Levenslied, al noemde hij het zelf liever levenspop.
