For this first outing on Candid, vibraphonist Steve Hobbs chose what might be described as the All-American rhythm section - guys who are quite simply the best - the impeccable Kenny Barron on piano and master craftsmen Peter Washington (bass) and Victor Lewis (drums). There was a certain chemistry, a rush of adrenaline and an aura of anticipation and excitement generated on the date recorded on New York's Lower East Side. The musicians unfamiliarity with each other's styles meant that everyone had to be in top gear to make this session come off the way it should. Steve can be more than satisfied that the four musicians gathered together on this marvelous dated produced some truly memorable music which is a credit to all concerned - individually and collectively.
