Digitally remastered and expanded edition. After launching his Beverley's Records label in the early 1960s, Leslie Kong quickly established a reputation as being one of the sharpest operators in the Jamaican music business. By the close of the decade he had exceeded all expectations for a Kingston-based record producer after releasing a number of recordings that not only topped the local charts, but also breached pop listings around the world. The hit-rate continued into the 1970s, as Kong's tight and breezy production style ensured such esteemed acts as the Maytals, the Melodians, the Pioneers, Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff all made the UK mainstream charts. In the autumn of 1970, Trojan Records released Hot Shots Of Reggae, showcasing a dozen of the producer's most popular recordings from the preceding months. The strikingly designed album swiftly became one of the company's best sellers, yet despite it's popularity has remained unissued in any format since it's original release. That oversight has finally been addressed and here, at long last, is the glorious LP in it's entirety, with the original dozen tracks augmented by a further 13 Kong-produced recordings from the glorious, golden age of reggae.
