These Bach sonatas for solo violin and bass continuo are among the lesser known and less often performed of his works of this kind. These sonatas provide the accompanist with great freedom to embellish and improvise their part. The bass parts are written out, as well as the chord structure. Certain performance rules and stylistic approaches were followed so that the music is realized as intended. Both Nils-Erik Sparf on the baroque violin and David Härenstam on the guitar improvise freely when playing, placing or removing ornaments as the moment dictates and in accordance with each other.
