Continuing Stage Door's line of Deluxe Edition Broadway Cast Album reissues is an expanded release of Bob Merrill's 1961 musical 'Carnival'. Featuring music and lyrics by Merrill and book by Michael Stewart, ' Carnival', produced by David Merrick and directed / choreographed by Gower Champion, opened at New York's Imperial Theatre on April 12th 1961, later transferring to the Winter Garden Theatre, and ran a total of 719 performances.'Carnival', based on the 1953 film 'Lili', starred Anna Maria Alberghetti as Lili alongside James Mitchell, Pierre Olaf, Kaye Ballard and Jerry Orbach. The production received 7 Tony Award nominations, winning 'Best Scenic Design' (Will Steven Armstrong) and 'Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical' for Anna Maria Alberghetti. Presented across 2CDs, the release presents the Original Broadway Cast Recording, newly remastered from stereo reel-to-reel tape, alongside a handful of pop covers from Bob Merrill's score. These include recordings by The Everly Brothers, Pat Boone, Mel Torme and more. As a special bonus track, the CD includes a rare live performance of the show's signature song 'Love Makes the World Go 'Round' by it's star Anna Maria Alberghetti for the public service radio broadcast 'Stars for Defense'. The release includes a bonus disc featuring 2 instrumental cover albums of 'Carnival' performed by Cyril Ornadel and The Starlight Symphony Orchestra and 'Carnival in Percussion' by The Paul Smith Ensemble. Both instrumental albums make their debut on CD. The release is further complemented with detailed sleeve notes by Broadway historian George Dansker. The 'Carnival' Deluxe 2CD Set is a limited edition release of 500 units only.
