Genre: Jazz
Digitally remastered edition includes one bonus track. Contains the complete 1962 concert given by Charles Mingus with his band at New York's Town Hall, originally released on Charles Mingus: Town Hall Concert. A controversial performance which received uneven reviews, it features the leader performing compositions he would only rarely record on other occasions, if ever. The band is a who's who of jazz greats, including Clark Terry, Eric Dolphy, Charles McPherson, Charlie Mariano, Zoot Sims, Britt Woodman, Jimmy Cleveland, Pepper Adams, Les Spann, Jaki Byard and Toshiko Akiyoshi, among others. Jimmy Knepper, who was part of Mingus' band at the time, couldn't be present because he had an argument with the leader during the rehearsals (Mingus punched him in the face and broke his embouchure). The studio version of 'Peggy's Blue Skylight' has been added here as a bonus. Phoenix.
