Reissue of this 1991 release. Many couldn't believe this album was a debut album - Chris Whitley managed to create a classic blues/country album. He had a natural talent in writing awesome songs and wasn't afraid to experiment with country music. Immediately after releasing this record in 1991 he stood out, his voice sounded comfortably slick with a hint of desperate longing. This was the beginning of a fulfilling career, strikingly brilliant and therefore unforgettable. The smooth title song 'Living with the law' simply gets under your skin, the catchy 'Phone call from Leavenworth', all impressively combining Chris Whitley's amazing vocals with slide guitars, steel pedal, harmonica. Texas blues going back to the New Orleans roots, this album is simply mesmerizing.
