Ukulele Player Magazine said "I'd like to hear more tunes, seven is not enough. Make another. : o) " All the songs on Davenport Johnson's debut EP "Squinch" are original instrumentals and every track features Ukulele as the lead instrument. Many have layers of ukes with rhythm guitar for a sound that's often called americana by their fans, although there's a lot of folk-rock influences as well as jazz influences in the leads. The sound ranges from an absolutely acoustic uke sound, like the duets "Monkey Washing Cat," "Lullaby for a Black Balloon," "Back from Nowhere" and the layers of ukes in "Compass Rose" to the all out "anything-but-standard" electric ukulele of the title track "Squinch." Of course, none of this would matter if the music wasn't compelling. Which is why they're so pleased that Ukulele Player Magazine said "I'd like to hear more tunes, seven is not enough. Make another. : o) " Until they do, this limited edition EP is all that's available! Pick up a copy of Squinch today and you'll want to hear more too!
