In the 1920s, the name "Dixie Daisies" masked a flurry of top-shelf studio groups composed largely of talented New York-area freelance musicians brought together by contractors like Bob Haring, Sam Lanin, and Arthur Lange to record jazz-influenced dance music. They were very good records and they sold well, yet they have received scant attention in the years since. As the selections on this disc demonstrate, the Dixie Daisies records often feature inventive arranging and sprightly performances - they are exemplars of tuneful "hot" dance music of the early 1920s. The disc features performances by the legendary New Orleans clarinetist Doc Berendsohn along with Miff Mole, Jules Levy Jr., Larry Abbott, Tommy Gott, and others. All selections have been freshly transferred and restored from original pressings by renowned audio engineer Christian Zwarg for superb sound. These century-old recordings have never sounded so crisp, clear, and well-balanced! The lavish 32-page color booklet features rare photographs and detailed liner notes by Ralph Wondraschek, Randy Skretvedt, and Bryan S. Wright. 26 tracks. 78 minutes.
