This recital program composed of operas whose pivotal characters are women. Emilia di Liverpool, Gemma di Vergy, Caterina Camera, Lucrezia Borgia and Rosmonda d'Inghilterra are all strong personalities who oppose the despotism, fate and injustice oppressing them. It thus becomes immediately clear why these works came under attack by the censors. The authorities detected the systematic rebellion against the prevailing political climate which informed the scenes presented on stage.
