Eco D'Alberi are from Italy and consist of saxophonist Edoardo Marraffa, pianist Alberto Braida, drummer Fabrizio Spera and bassist Antonio Borghini. Their debut CD captures them live in three separate settings; '08 Vison Festival, '09 An Insolent Noise Festival and the '09 Taktlos Festival. Eco D'Alberi adapt a free jazz styled go-for-broke performance ethos with the quartet's sound and method of operation that is completely it's own. On tenor sax, Marraffa is most upfront, growling and shrieking with pressurized reed bites and tonal smears. Spera smacks and clatters cymbals and uses opposite sticking to expose ruffs and flams. Braida's stressed, two-handed patterns and vibrating bounces make common cause with Borghini's spiccato rubs and strums. Eco D'Alberi has confirmed it's skill and the significance of this CD as a masterful example of free expression from musicians of any country.
