With this re-release the superior offerings of master conductor Richard Hickox are made available to new audiences. Elgar, well-loved for his massive and mighty Dream of Gerontius, gets another moment in the sun with the lesser known but imposing oratorio the Light of Life for soprano, contralto, tenor, and baritone soloists with full choir and orchestra. From the downbeat of the opening "Meditation," Hickox makes his mastery of Elgarian musicality obvious to even the passing listener as he leads the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus into rich and beguiling territory.
