The "Freedom Jazz Dance" concept started with Luciano Cantone's suggestion to create "new standards", which could be understood openly from new generations as well as offering a portrait of the modern contemporary European jazz scene. Thus, the natural purpose of the "Freedom Jazz Dance" compilations became "the giving of a collection of contemporary classics". The strength of the release is the undeniable influence brought by certain European countries over today's Jazz. As demonstrated by the artists here, this selection moves from the northern longitude of Finland down to the southern tip represented by Italy (with two "digressions" into the past by Sahib Shiab and the Kenny Clarke-Frency Boland Sextet) geographically set in middle Europe. Five pieces are previously unreleased and Mario Biondi (the former Was-A-Bee singer) appears for the first time on this disc with his band the High Five Quintet.
