In the history of cinema, certain works are inextricably linked to the invention of filmic language. This is the case for Napoleon d'Abel Gance. This blockbuster of contagious fervor, animated by unseen camera movements, has remained famous for it's final triptych of unparalleled lyricism: the image expands and covers three juxtaposed screens. In order to better understand the creative genius of Abel Gance, the director Nelly Kaplan- who was a collaborator of the master- has extracted from the massive sound archives some forgotten and unpublished nuggets. She entrusts them today to Fremeaux and Associes. Through interviews, readings of texts and essays, the listener will become familiar with the director's biographical journey, with his technical daring and his "machine poetry."
