This recording is devoted to a program of popular music of the Netherlands – early choral music, old folk tunes in modern choral arrangements and contemporary works in a popular style. The Ghent Oratorio Society was organized in 1948 from the nucleus of several then existent Belgian choirs. Marcel De Pauw became conductor and Remi Suys rehearser. Its aim was to form one central society that would perform great, though generally unknown, choral works with particular emphasis on Flemish compositions. The vintage audiophile recording presented here was recorded in Ghent, Belgium in 1952 by the acclaimed audio engineer Jerry Newman, a pioneer in recorded sound. All selections have been newly remastered.
