40th Anniversary Box: Handel Sacred Masterworks Composer: Handel / Taverner Consort & Player / Andrew Parrott / Carmelite Vespers, 1707 / Israel in Egypt HWV 54 / Messiah HWV 56 Andrew Parrott Since founding the Tavener Consort and Players in 1973, Andrew Parrott has established a reputation for both scholarship and dynamic interpretation. As he said after recording Messiah and the Carmelite Vespers: 'To a creative musician the understanding of background is stimulating... Endless different viewpoints shouldn't prove constricting at all, but liberating.' They are joined here by another of Handel's choral masterworks, Israel in Egypt, in a version welcomed by Gramophone as 'the sort of recording the piece has needed for a long time'.
