This CD contains the first of 4 sessions Moody made for EmArcy/Mercury. Two pepped-up "oldies" lead into to the aptly named "Moody's Home." By early 1952, several former members of Dizzy Gillespie's big band had gathered around Moody whom they knew well and esteemed highly. Again it is remarkable to note the selections recorded by the combo: pieces from the '30s, lovely ballads reminiscent of the 52nd Street heydays alongside contemporary tunes like "Hey Jim" or "The James Moody Story" featuring Babs Gonzales. Quincy Jones' "Keepin' Up With Jonesy" is closely associated with Clifford Brown's great Paris recording from 1953. Moody's version is just as good and includes a wonderful baritone solo by Pee Wee Moore.
