Debra Kaye follows up her first Navona Records release IKARUS AMONG THE STARS with a sequel equally likely to cause a splash: the sagaciously-titled TIME IS THE SEA WE SWIM IN, an eclectic curation of chamber and solo compositions, united chiefly by their boldness and unconventionality. - Just like it's predecessor, TIME IS THE SEA WE SWIM IN draws it's inspiration from a stunningly diverse array of sources: roller coasters, Zen monks, Greek mythology, Tchaikovsky, and philosophical examinations of liberty. Sometimes, it's the instrumentation that is unorthodox, such as a Japanese shakuhachi being contrasted with the Western viola and cello. But this is Kaye's forte: reconciling heterogeneous influences by way of a sonic language that is wholly, uncompromisingly her own.
