Lara Price was born in the war torn country of Vietnam in 1975. Abandoned at birth, Lara became a part of the controversial Operation Baby Lift, the mass evacuation of orphans from South Vietnam to the United States. Her journey to her new home was nothing short of a miracle, as 90 percent of the orphaned babies did not survive. Lara Price is a survivor-with an indisputable right to sing the blues! Lara arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1997 to pursue her dream of singing in a band. With a strikingly soulful voice, eclectic tastes, and skills on multiple instruments, Lara applied herself to many musical ventures. She toured across the United States and China, and produced, co-wrote and released 5 genre-spanning CD's, the most recent in 2010. In the ensuing years Lara immersed herself in the Bay Area music scene, met blues/soul icons Ann Peebles and Candi Staton, and began to find her musical focus. Particularly drawn to songs with a 60's soul blues vibe, especially those with great backup singers, she began to envision her next album. She recruited musicians Jim Pugh (Robert Cray Band), Chris Cain, and fellow VizzTone label-mates Mighty Mike Schermer (Marcia Ball) and Laura Chavez (who plays with Lara frequently when she's not touring with Candye Kane), as well as the Sweet Nectar backup singers, and wrote, co-wrote and collected songs for the new album. Lara went into acclaimed producer Kid Andersen's Greaseland Studio and proceeded to lay down a gorgeous, career-defining album, meaningfully titled I MEAN BUSINESS.
