The all-star Lucky Tomblin Band returns with in a Honky-Tonk Mood, the second collection of dancefloor-friendly honky-tonk music from deep in the heart of Texas. A veteran of more than 30 years of music making, San Antonio native Lucky Tomblin has grown up in the honky-tonks and dancehalls of the Lone Star State, and his new album takes listeners on a musical tour of Texas with lots of nods to the states rich musical heritage of country, rock, blues and Tex-Mex. Joining Lucky is his all-star ensemble that includes guitarist Redd Volkaert (Merle Haggard, Ray Price), pianist Earl Poole Ball (Johnny Cash, the Byrds, Buck Owens), bassist Sarah Brown (Dr. John, Sunnyland Slim, Albert Collins), guitarist John X. Reed (Joe Ely, the Flatlanders, Doug Sahm), drummer Jon Hahn (Radney Foster, the Flatlanders, Rosie Flores) and rhythm guitarist Bobby Arnold (Willie Nelson). No Depression magazine said, Tomblins plaintive vocals recall Lefty Frizzell, Lyle Lovetts lilt, and a bit of Willie. And Country Standard Time raved, Lucky Tomblin creates an atmospheric, eclectic set that rings together elements of Western Swing, Tex-Mex and blues, with justa hint of 60s rock n roll. In a Honky-Tonk Mood promises to elicit the same joyous reaction in critics and fans alike.
