This new release features Andre Parfenov's new interpretation of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" and his own outstanding composition, the "New Goldberg Variations." André Parfenov was born in Königsberg, today's Kaliningrad, in 1972 to a German mother and a Russian father. His extraordinary musical talent, which also included improvisation at the piano, was discovered early on. When the family moved to the far-away city of Ufa, he was assigned one of the rare and sought-after places at a secondary school specialized in music. This paved the way to subsequent piano studies at the world-renowned Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. For family reasons, the young pianist moved to Germany with his parents and siblings when he was 22. He studied at the Folkwang Academy in Essen, graduating with distinction in 2000. In the meantime, André Parfenov has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony in Brasov, the Lower Rhenish Symphony Orchestra and the New Philharmonic of Westphalia. Works he frequently performs include Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, but also George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Parfenov's recitals have been documented on four solo albums so far.
