EU-only two CD collection. After bassist Scott LaFaro's tragic death in a car accident in July of 1961, Bill Evans was devastated and didn't feel capable of forming a new trio. The late 1961-1962 formation heard here was a transition group, with bassist Chuck Israels attempting to fill the void left by LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian still on drums (in 1963 he would be replaced by Larry Bunker which set the stage for Bill Evans' second well-known trio). This release presents all existing recordings by the Evans-Israels-Motian trio, consisting of three studio sessions that were issued on the albums Moonbeams and How My Heart Sings, a single Birdland broadcast on which the group plays three tunes they'd never record in the studio, and the LP Nirvana, which featured Herbie Mann added on flute.
