Demon Records are delighted to proud to present the new half-speed master edition of Manic Pop Thrill, the 1986 debut album by That Petrol Emotion. Originally a Northern Irish, London based quintet with an American singer, the band got together following the demise of Top 40 hitmakers and John Peel favourites The Undertones, their name inspired by the title of a song by another Derry outfit, Bam Bam & The Calling. Too late for Punk, too early for Grunge, That Petrol Emotion's output merged well written melodic tunes with political statement. After a series of independent singles, That Petrol Emotion released their debut album Manic Pop Thrill on Demon Records in 1986. The album was met with rapturous acclaim from critics and topped the indie charts. Featuring the singles 'It's A Good Thing' and 'Natural Kind Of Joy', Manic Pop Thrill showcased the band's ability to channel their left-field influences into urgent songs packed full of relentless pop hooks and remains an essential album in their catalogue. Includes This new edition has been newly mastered by Phil Kinrade, and expertly cut using transfers of the original ½" tapes using precision half-speed mastering by Barry Grint at AIR Mastering. The equipment at AIR Mastering uses balanced mains power for improved performance and lower noise and the digital equipment is locked to an extremely accurate digital clock to reduce jitter. The Neumann VMS80 lathes and cutting amplifiers used have been fully renovated and modified to enable half speed mastering. This new reissue has been assembled with the assistance of the band and features new liner notes by John Harris. Pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl, housed in a poly-lined inner sleeve, featuring an obi strip and a 4-page booklet insert.
