The Earlies' debut brings together their first self-released singles and subsequent EPs, originally released in 2004 in the UK. This record combines layered vocals with imaginary and more traditional instruments to produce a unique pop sound where sonic exploration can still take place. Residing in Northern England and Western Texas, the Earlies are united by a shared love of the Band, the Beach Boys, the Byrds, and the Beatles. All get a gracious nod on this album, together with a unique mix of psychedelic, progressive, left field, and country influences. The variety of instrumental texture, layered harmonies, and electronic tweaks - complete with a strong American lead vocal - could easily make the Earlies a Jason Pierce, Neil Young, and Phil Spector side project, if they all decided to have a bit of fun for a change. Secretly Canadian. 2005.
